Using Spray Foam Insulation in walls is an extremely common project. It's quick and easy to do. Plus the benefits range from much lower utility bills to reduced sound transfer. Here's how to do 2x6 walls with Foam it Green spray foam insulation.
If you want, tape off the studs with painter's tape so you can easily pull off the tape later and have clean studs ready for sheetrock.
Use a drop cloth on the floor to protect areas from any falling "snow" (foam particles)
Spray on Foam it Green so it rises to an inch or two in each cavity. Move to the next cavity and repeat. Typically for filling stud bays, the fan spray tips help broaden the spray so the foam goes on fast and about the width of the cavity.
Once all the stud bays are full with the initial coat, make sure it's cured.
If they have, repeat the process, building upon the previous inch an inch or two at a time.
For the final coat, move faster so you just get a quick coat.
Full out, you can spray a 602 in 30-40 minutes, so while this may sound slow, it's in fact the fastest and easiest way to seal and insulate walls.
Your walls now have a seamless air barrier that saves massive amounts of energy, along with a high r-value of roughly37+. Your walls also stop sound transfer and provide a large deterrent to pests. Your family also enjoys a much better air quality.
If you overfill, just use a serrated knife to shave back the spots.
Some people can use just 1 inch of Foam it Green closed cell spray foam insulation and others need more.
It depends on the project and where you live.
According to building scientists, the general rule to follow is:
If you heat during the winter, you need 50% (or more) of the total R-value of an enclosed wall'sinsulation in Foam it Green closed cell spray foam.
Here's why. The dew point happens when hot air meets cold air. The cold air cannot hold the moisture in the warm air, so it turns to water and drops from the air, creating condensation.
If this condensation happens in Foam it Green closed cell spray foam, the condensation has nowhere to go. If the dew point happens in the open cell foam or fiberglass, you'll have condensation between the foam and the other insulation.
You just need to make sure you accommodate for the dew point so you don't have moisture issues.

"I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the finished product! The foam applied easily. It expanded as described. It was actually fun! How many remodeling projects can actually be described as fun?!
Thank you Foam It Green, for saving me a bunch of money, and helping me get my rec room so easily insulated!!! I cannot imagine applying insulation by any other method than Foam It Green in the future. It only took about one hour to apply foam to 60 feet of walls.

"We recently purchased a house with a three season addition that we had hoped to convert into a home office. The addition was really poorly constructed and the materials used were what I would normally expect in a garage. When we got the walls open man was it leaky. We did the work in December and you could really feel the cold wind whistling through the place.
When I found the Foam-it-green kit online it sounded like just what I needed, but I have to admit I was a little skeptical about how easy it sounded.
With little more than about a half day of work I was able to really seal up that drafty ol pile of sticks. It was a snap to do. The online instructions were great and reassured me that I was indeed doing it right. I couldn't be more pleased. I've since covered everything over with denim batting for another 13r and the temp in that room is spectacularly improved.
Thanks for a great product and for a really great website and support tools. As we move through the house to take on other projects, I will absolutely use your stuff again."
